How I conceptualized a skillset and various assets for a mod for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
In 2019, a friend of mine introduced me to a small project where we would create assets for and conceptualize gameplay for characters that we would like to see in the popular Super Smash Bros. series in order to hone and polish our game design skills. Over the next few years, I created concept art for two pre-existing characters that were not playable in the game: WayForward’s Shantae and SEGA’s Metal Sonic. I conceptualized possible alternative palettes for each character and wrote dialogue for their “Guidance Conversation;” a conversation where certain other characters have an in-game discussion about the character in question. The latter helped me learn how to get into character when writing dialogue, making the dialogue seem natural. In addition, I got to use my skills in 3D modeling to create a model for Shantae, seeing as how no official 3D model exists that we could use.
While the mod itself was left postponed indefinitely due to communications issues and outside commitments within the team as a whole, some of the assets I contributed to the project are available on this page.
