How I put my character design and animation techniques to the test designing the main character for a Game Jam.
Duration: 1 Month
Team Size: Seven
Engine: Unity
Roles: Character Artist, VFX Artist
Skills Used/Obtained: Character Design, VFX Art, Communication
The first Game Jam where I put my character design skills to the test, Slime Control: The Goo Getaway was a submission for the Metroidvania Month Game Jam that was ranked number 41 out of 132 submissions. Alongside designing and animating the player character and one of the enemies, I also contributed some VFX art for the game’s enemies and boss fight – and even pitched the initial game concept.
While this was my first game jam in a long time working with a team I was unfamiliar with, I made sure to keep communication open and frequent with the rest of the team – especially the coding department that had to implement the animations I made. Overall, I’m proud of what we were able to come up with in such a short time frame even after just meeting each other for the first time, and I look forward to any work we may do again in the future!
