One of the background designs I made for the game.

A game design project designed as a submission to a Game Jam on itch.io, A Mystical Perspective is a text-based game made in Twine where our goal was to make a forest themed game with no trees whatsoever. I decided to take a backseat from story direction and programming this time around and instead decided to devote my time to another field that I feel passionate about: artwork and design. While my preferred field is character design, I decided to settle for background artwork since character design isn’t necessary for Twine. Due to the nature of the game jam, our time was limited, and thanks to the outbreak of COVID-19, my ability to communicate with my teammate, Trey Kivett, was limited as well. As such, I was working with vague descriptions and fuzzy outlines of where the story would go. It was my idea that we set the story in a mystical mushroom forest, and that’s immediately what I set about designing. Taking inspiration from numerous sources, I designed a set of colorful and meaningful landscapes for the game, and according to my partner, they turned out beautiful and gave the game a very mystical feel to it.
